Bormio, a traditional Italian town with impressive medieval architecture and appealing atmosphere. Bormio is located close to, but directly on a smallish ski area. The ski area in Bormio is compact at around 40km of ski pistes, with many Italian visitors as concerned with parading through the streets of Bormio, as they are with skiing in the small but very scenic ski area. The resort hosted the 2005 World Championships and received some good investment and notoriety as a result. The investment has seen an improvement in the lift infrastructure and snowmaking.
Bormio is exclusive and attracts many wealthy weekenders who swell the numbers, however, particularly during the week , the predominantly beginner / intermediate ski pistes are far from crowded. The après ski is refined and focuses on the bars and restaurants in the attractive centre of Bormio.
