Courmayeur, Italy, located on the opposite side of Mont Blanc to the French alpine resort of Chamonix.
With peaks in excess of 4000m dotted right across the horizon, Courmayeur combines a spectacular location with a traditional alpine village. Sharing the highest peak in Europe with Chamonix, Courmayeur offers terrain that is best suited to the intermediate skier although advanced skiers will find ski areas to suit. For those after a real challenge then skiers can cross the border from Courmayeur into France and either return to the Italian side or sample some of the high alpine terrain Chamonix has to offer. Glacier is available as is extensive snow making so snow is assured. Known for its shopping as much as its skiing Courmayeur has an impressive village shopping central area. Courmayeur also offers a great example of Italian alpine atmosphere; Courmayeur is a true ski / climbing / alpinist destination. As you can be expected of Italy, there is a strong empahasis on food and whilst the après ski action is far from riotous in Courmayeur, there are numerous bars and restaurants to enjoy the evening in.
